Is great escape on for Rooney & Co?

Derby County’s 1-0 win over relegation rivals Peterborough United lifted them to within five points of safety, keeping Wayne Rooney’s dream of an unbelievable escape alive. Derby drew 1-1 away at Millwall earlier this season, but can be confident of going one better on Wednesday, thanks to their superb home record.

The East Midlands outfit have won four and drawn one of their last five at Pride Park, and only promotion-chasing trio Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, and Middlesbrough have earned more than the Rams’ tally of 30 home points this term. Meanwhile, only QPR and Blackburn, sat fourth and third respectively, have beaten Derby in their 16 home league games this term.

Millwall also have a strong home record, going unbeaten in four outings at the Den, but are terrible travellers. Gary Rowett’s team have lost five consecutive away matches, four of which came at sides below the Lions in the league table. Rowett’s men last won on the road at Sheffield United in mid-October, and have averaged fewer than a goal per game and a point per game on away turf this season.

Generously priced Rams are worth backing

Considering Millwall’s terrible record on their recent road trips, Rooney’s men look to have been very generously priced to claim a ninth home win of the Championship season, as they look to haul in managerless Reading at the bottom of the second tier.

Derby have four clean sheets in their last five home matches, and Millwall have failed to score in their last two away trips, so a 1-0 Derby win could be a decent correct score prediction.
