Dinamo Zagreb vs Viktoria Plzen Predictions

Viktoria Plzen take a slight advantage into Thursday’s 2nd leg against Dinamo Zagreb, but along with the home advantage our hosts also have an away goal which makes this tie very finely balanced. Both teams picked up wins in their weekend league games, as well as a clean sheet, and we’re expecting another close and competitive ninety minutes between the pair on Thursday.

Dinamo Zagreb beat Slaven Koprivnica 3-0 on Sunday and sit fourteen points clear at the top of the 1. HNL table, while picked up a crucial three points against league leaders Slavia Praha and are now just three points off the top spot in second place. Dinamo Zagreb took the lead late in the first half through Daniel Olmo when the pair met last Thursday and lead by a goal to nil at the interval. The hosts Viktoria Plzen responded well in the second half though and were back on level terms in the fifty-fourth minute through Pernica. Despite Dinamo Zagreb having more of the overall possession and creating more goal scoring opportunities it was Plzen who scored the third and final goal of the 1st leg through that man Pernica once again, to take a narrow lead into the reverse fixture.

We’re expecting another close ninety minutes on Thursday with the likelihood of both teams getting on the scoreboard once again. There were plenty of chances for both sides in the 1st leg and Dinamo Zagreb have only failed to score in one of their last six competitive matches, while both teams have scored in four of Plzen’s last six league and cup games. Plzen have only kept two clean sheets in their last six matches and Dinamo Zagreb really should have scored more than once when the teams met in the Czech Republic. However, Viktoria Plzen are unbeaten in their last ten competitive matches and with that in mind we’re expecting the visitors to do just enough on Thursday to secure safe passage to the next round of the Europa League.

Hajrović top scores for the hosts with three goals in Europe so far this season, while Pernica is now level with Krmenčík on two for Plzen in European competition. The visitors are the form favourites heading into the 2nd leg with five wins and a draw from their last six competitive matches, ahead of Zagreb who have won four, drawn one, and lost one during that same period. We’re confident that both teams will score on Thursday, and have backed the final scoreline to end 1-1. Both teams have been scoring on a regular basis and as we saw during the 1st leg their styles of play tend to mean that each side creates as many chances as they give away. Plzen have Champions League experience and are in the midst of a ten match unbeaten run that will give them confidence, and we believe they will remain unbeaten at Thursday’s final whistle.
