Dundee vs Brechin Predictions

Dundee FC face Brechin City in their fourth game of the Scottish League Cup group match. Two points are all that separates the two sides, with Dundee currently in 2nd place with 6 points, just ahead of Brechin, who have 4 points.

Dundee FC have managed to finally get their form back in the final days before the league starts up again. After a frustrating set of results for the Dundonian side – who only managed to gain 3 points from their two initial League Cup matches – the club seems to have found its bearings and are now heading in the right direction under the guidance of Neil McCann.

After a questionable start to the new campaign, the 43-year-old manager has brought his team back to winning ways, after only slipping up against group leaders Dunfermline, who are currently breezing past every side they play. With this round of fixtures being the last one before the group stage finishes, the Dee only need a point to have the possibility of progressing, or they could also hope and pray that Dunfermline lose by at least 5 goals to come level on goal difference. Two of Dundee’s summer signings scored the two goals, the second brace coming in the last minute to secure their side’s victory and give them a really good chance at progressing.

In their way stands Brechin City. After suffering a horrendous season in the Championship, where they failed to even achieve one victory, finishing 10th after only gaining 4 points from 36 matches, the City will want to completely erase last season’s performance and replace it with a better one.

After ridding themselves of 12 players so far, they’ve managed to bring in another 10. These new signings will help Brechin ease their way back into League One after a tough season in the championship, an experience that manager Darren Dods will be quick to forget, believing that his side were “using arrows against machines guns”.

Brechin currently sit on 4 points that they won after defeating Stirling Albion and drawing with Peterhead. This latest triumph- the first one since winning in the Scottish Cup back in November- was quickly overshadowed by the 7-1 thrashing they received off Dunfermline.

For this reason I believe that Dundee will get the job done. As well as having a team with more quality and stability, Neil McCann’s men will undoubtedly be the more experienced side, and they’ll want to use that to their advantage. Dundee only really need a point to have a chance at progressing, but they’ll want the win even more so to try and gain automatic qualification to the next round, so I’m also expecting a lot of goals. Dundee have kept a clean sheet in two of their three League Cup matches so far, and they’re facing a Brechin side coming into this game on the back of a humiliating thrashing against Dunfermline in midweek. Backing Dundee to win to nil looks a great option here, along with a more than comfortable 4-0 correct score prediction.
