Dundee vs Dunfermline Predictions

Dundee kicked off their season with an impressive victory over Stirling Albion, and they’re aiming to take that form in to their clash with Dunfermline this weekend. The Premiership side are favourites to secure the points, following a 4-0 win last weekend, which kickstarted their Scottish League Cup campaign. They continue to hunt top spot in Group D this week, with Championship side Dunfermline heading to Dens Park. Can they pull off a shock here, or will the hosts win their opening home match of the 2018/19 campaign?

The visitors also managed to start off with a victory, as they beat Peterhead 3-0 in midweek to boost their chances of progressing to the next round. That leaves this group looking incredibly open after the first two rounds. Brechin – the side who picked just four points in the Championship last term – lead the way with four points in two games here. Dundee and Dunfermline sit on three apiece, while Peterhead have two. With just one guaranteed spot in the last 16 up for grabs, we expect a tight finish in Group D.

The hosts will be looking to take back top spot, and they are expected to make it two wins from two by seeing off Dunfermline this weekend. They had to struggle against the drop in the Premiership last season, and this term is expected to be another tough one for Dundee. However, their poor league form did come off the back of some strong results in this competition, as they showed this class to see off lower league opposition. They won three and drew one of four group stage ties, and they followed that up by beating the one side who they drew with – Dundee United – in the next round. While their campaign was ultimately ended by Celtic, Dundee had racked up their fair share of victories, something they followed up by beating Stirling.

Dunfermline were hammered 6-0 in the first knockout round of this competition. The visitors have won one of their last eight trips in the League Cup, pulling off a single result at a top flight opponent in that time. They aren’t likely to end Dundee’s strong form in this competition on the back of those results, while Dunfermline won just 28% of their trips to Championship opposition last term.

We expect the visitors to come up short here yet again. Dundee have won six of their last eight at home in the League Cup, with their only loss coming to champions Celtic. We expect them to add to that run, and they look like good value for the victory on Sunday.
