Dundee can get their League Cup campaign off to a winning start against fellow Championship side Hamilton at Dens Park on Saturday.

Gary Bowyer’s appointment and the Dark Blues’ switch to a new training facility with modern amenities have put the smiles back on the faces of a squad that had been drained of confidence throughout a difficult relegation battle last season.

Despite the troubled times they endured, Dundee still managed to fight right to the end and were unbeaten in their last three Premiership home games.

Accies’ new boss has his work cut out

Hamilton finished in mid-table and lost three of their last four games as their season petered out. They have not really added to their squad over the summer yet and also have a new manager in place – ex-Dundee United man John Rankin.

Unlike Bowyer, who has a wealth of management experience, Rankin is taking a top job for the first time and doesn’t yet have a full backroom team in place.
