Espanyol vs Real Madrid Predictions

• Espanyol are without a win in nine La Liga matches

Espanyol yet to get going

Espanyol have had a disappointing start to the season, registering merely one point courtesy of a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo, which was followed by a 2-0 loss at Rayo Vallecano.

That means they are without a win in nine league games, four of which they have failed to score in.

They will be without Sergio Gomez, who got sent off last weekend, while their head to head record with Real is abysmal, losing 16 of the last 18 matches.

Real have hit the ground running

Three games played and three wins for Real Madrid, who beat Frankfurt 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup, before getting the defence of their title underway with victories over Almeria and Celta Vigo.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are on a terrific run which stretches back to last season, which they rounded off by lifting the Champions League after a 1-0 defeat of Liverpool.

They have in fact picked up seven victories from their last nine away La Liga matches, and have kept clean sheets in 10 of their last 12 meetings the Espanyol.

I expect Real Madrid to win this game to nil, but they do not often hammer teams under Ancelotti, so 2-0 to the visitors is my correct score prediction.
