      Everton vs Lincoln City Predictions

Everton lost 1-0 for the second game on the run when they played host to Leicester City on New Years Day and have slipped down to tenth place in the table. The pressure is certainly on Toffee’s boss Marco Silva and the former Hull City and Watford manager cannot afford to lose at home to League Two side Lincoln City in the FA Cup on Saturday. The visitors top the League Two table by four points and head to Merseyside in great confidence, and they will believe they can upset the odds this weekend and pull off one of the biggest giant killings of all time.

Everton might have had 60% of the possession at home to Leicester, but another poor performance that lacked creativity and highlighted the Toffee’s desperate need for a top class striker. The hosts managed just eight shots during the ninety minutes, the same as Leicester, with each team getting just half of those attempts on target. Full back Kenny hit the post for the hosts, but Vardy scored the only goal of the game in the second half to set the year off to a miserable start for the Everton fans.

Lincoln City will have been disappointed not to have gotten the New Year off to a winning start at home to Port Vale. A tight and tense ninety minutes didn’t produce a lot in the way of obvious goal scoring opportunities and the teams went in at the break goalless. However, once Lincoln took the lead through McCartan in the fifty-eighth minute you would have had your money on the hosts seeing out the result, but Oyeleke equalised in the final minute of the ninety to earn Port Vale a share of the spoils.

When Lincoln and Everton met in the League Cup back in 1993/94 the tie was played over two legs and both teams produced a plethora of goals. The Merseysiders won 4-2 at home and 4-3 away to wrap up an 8-5 aggregate victory that was certainly worth the price of admission on both occasions. Lincoln City’s only victory over the Toffees arrived at Goodison Park during the 1952/53 season, where the visitors won the game by three goals to nil.

Lincoln City are the form favourites heading into Saturday’s game, having won four of their last six matches, drawn one, and lost one. Everton’s form has been poor despite beating Burnley 5-1 away, with four of their last six games ending in defeat and the last two games have failed to see the Toffee’s score a single goal. Richarlison top scores for Everton in the league this season with nine goals, while teammate Sigurðsson has chipped in with eight goals. Former Barnet striker Akinde leads the way in front of goal in the league for Lincoln this season with nine goals and his aerial ability could give the Everton defence a few headaches this weekend.

We’re confident that Lincoln will take something from this game and have backed the visitors with a double chance bet and for the game to end in a 1-1 draw. The two clubs are in polar opposite runs of form with the hosts losing four of their last six and Lincoln claiming four wins during that same period. Lincoln top the League Two table with 15 wins, 6 draws, 4 defeats, and a total of 51 points, while Everton sit tenth in the Premier League with 7 wins, 6 draws, 8 defeats, and a total of 27 points. Everton have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight matches, while Lincoln haven’t failed to score in any of their last thirteen matches.
