Excelsior vs Willem II Predictions

Struggling Excelsior could move out of the bottom three with a win over Willem II on Sun day, but the visitors arrive in great form and remain in the hunt for the European places. The hosts were beaten last time out by Ajax, conceding six goals, while Willem II picked up their fifth win in six matches at home to Zwolle.

Excelsior found themselves 3-1 down at halftime in Amsterdam, with El Hamdaoui scoring the visitors consolation goal, and things got even worse in the second half as Ajax scored three more times to take a 6-1 lead with fifteen minutes left on the clock. Fortes managed to pull a goal back for Excelsior late on, not that it mattered much as the visitor’s goal difference took another unwanted hit. A thirty-eighth minute goal from Dankerlui saw Willem II take a narrow lead into the interval at home to Zwolle, but another goal from the impressive Isak on the hour mark secured all three points for the in form hosts.

The recent head to head record might favour Excelsior heading into Sunday’s match, but the performances of both teams this season and their results in the Eredivisie over the last month or so, all points towards and away win for Willem II and a good chance both teams will score. Both teams have scored in five of the last seven meetings between these two clubs, and over 2.5 goals have been produced in four of those seven encounters. Excelsior have lost each of their last six matches in the Eredivisie. while Willem II have won five of their last six in the league. Excelsior lost their last game 6-2 against Ajax and could be vulnerable in defence this weekend, while Willem II have scored three or more goals in four of their last six matches and will be full of confidence going forward. Willem II have only kept one clean sheet in their last six matches, and both teams have scored in five of Willem II’s last six and two of Excelsior’s last three matches.

Messaoud top scores for the hosts this season with seven Eredivisie goals, while Fran Sol is technically Willem II’s top score with thirteen, but has now left the club, and on-loan striker Isak is just one behind his total with twelve goals to his name. We’re confident that Willem II will win on Sunday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 4-1. The visitors are flying right now and score goals for fun, but haven’t kept many clean sheets which should make for an exciting, end to end ninety minutes in Rotterdam.
