Exeter City vs Lincoln City Predictions

Exeter City entertain Lincoln City at St James Park on Saturday in an early season top of the table League Two showdown. The hosts sit in 3^rd spot after five league matches of the new campaign, though a win this weekend against leaders Lincoln City could conceivably see the clubs swap positions.

Exeter will have to find a way to pull themselves out of their recent slump if they are to take the points however. The Grecians had gone five games unbeaten at the start of the season, but two defeats in the space of a week in league and cup have brought that sequence to an abrupt stop.

Having been cruelly denied promotion to League One after a Playoff Final defeat to Coventry last season, the Grecians started in 2018/19 in the best possible fashion, winning the first two of their league matches of the new campaign.

After their wins against Carlisle and Morecambe, a buoyant Exeter knocked Championship side Ipswich out of the Carabao Cup on penalties. A point in their next League Two match was followed by three more at Cambridge.

Milton Keynes handed Exeter their first league defeat of the season last weekend, a result that knocked the Grecians down into 3^rd spot. Premiership side Fulham brushed them aside in the 2^nd round of the cup in midweek to confirm their first double dose of defeat since January.

Exeter will be desperate to get back on track as soon as possible, though their next opportunity to do so could scarcely have been more difficult. Lincoln City take their table topping team to St James Park on Saturday, and though the Imps are still unbeaten in League Two, they got their first defeat of the season overall against Blackburn in midweek.

Rovers rattled four goals past Sam Slocombe in the Lincoln goal, and it will be interesting to see if the 4-1 scoreline has had a detrimental effect on the confidence levels in the Imps squad.

Four wins from five League Two matches is a difficult set of results to ignore however, though it is worth nothing that their one slip up so far came on the road in a 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town.

Exeter and Lincoln look well matched in almost every department, though the home side have a psychological edge over their visitors having beaten them comfortably over two legs in the Play Off Semi Finals at the back end of last season.

Nevertheless, the landscape has shifted over the summer and Lincoln now look ready to offer stiffer competition to Exeter. No team has stopped the Lincoln attack from scoring this season and we expect the League Two top scorers to earn the Imps a point at St James Park.
