Exeter City vs Oldham Predictions

  • Exeter City are unbeaten at home in their last 13 league matches (Won 5, Drawn 8).
  • Exeter City have won two of their last three league games by 2-1 scorelines with only a 90th minute goal preventing it from being three on the trot.
  • Oldham Athletic scored in both meetings with Exeter City last season (both 2-1 wins).

Grecians have firepower to leave Latics in bottom three

Oldham Athletic have kept three straight clean sheets on the road heading into their trip to St James Park, but will find it much tougher to stop Exeter City from scoring.

The Grecians have scored 20 goals in their last ten league games and saw their reserves rattle five past a second-string Bristol Rovers outfit before half-time in midweek.

Matthew Jay is the joint-leading scorer in the division with nine goals, five of which have come in his last five league appearances, so there’s enough firepower to trouble a Latics defence that has been miserly against lesser opposition of late.

Taylor’s team unbeaten on own patch since March

We’re taking the hosts to edge this one 2-1 as their recent league games have all unfolded to a roughly similar story with Exeter coming on strong in the second halves for wins over Crawley, Mansfield and Salford.

Matt Taylor’s men are unbeaten at home since March and, although they have drawn more than they have won during that time, Oldham are third-bottom for a reason.

Their home form is actually a bigger concern than their failure to pick up points on their travels, but we cannot envisage Keith Curle’s side getting three points from this lengthy road trip.

Our faith in the hosts to take the win doesn’t extend to backing them at an odds on price, however, as we will instead look for value in the total goals markets where ‘overs’ should be the play based on Exeter’s recent record and last season’s two meetings between the clubs.
