Falkirk vs Forfar Predictions

Falkirk suffered a shock in their opening game of the new season, as they lost 1-0 at home to Montrose on Saturday. Going down to lower league opposition is a tough start for the Championship side, who now have an uphill battle as they look to make it out of their group. Can they get things back on track when they host Forfar on Tuesday night? With their two home games up first, Falkirk are basically eliminated with a loss this week.

Forfar are kicking off their campaign with this result, as they look to secure their first win of the season. That would put them in the mix for the next round, although they’d have to match Montrose and St Johnstone, who each won their opening matches of the campaign. This is another clash with League One opposition for Falkirk, who managed to win all of their group stage matches last time around. Can they return to that form here?

If Falkirk are going to return to form, they’re likely to do it with a low scoring game. They were held off by League One Montrose at the weekend, failing to make an impact in attack. We can see another low scoring game as a result, especially given that the hosts finished last season as the third lowest scorers in the Championship.

Can the visitors hold them off? They saw under 2.5 goals land in almost half of their League One matches, while they failed to score in 42% of their matches in the third tier. That looks even worse when you take their recent League Cup form in to account, which has seen them fail to score in three of their four trips since the group format was introduced to the League Cup.

We think this will be a low scoring game, and there are favourable odds to be found on that. You can back under 3.5 goals in this clash for great value, and the form points to that landing. 64% of their matches last term saw three goals or less, while the visitors saw over 3.5 land in just 22% of their away trips. With the hosts coming off the back of a poor result and display, we can’t help but side with under 3.5 goals here, along with a narrow 1-0 victory for the hosts. They desperately need a result to return to form and keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout round alive, and we see them just about getting it.
