FC Eindhoven vs Ajax Reserves Predictions

FC Eindhoven’s perfect start to 2019 was brought to a halt by Jong PSV last week, but David Nascimento’s side will feel confident that they can get back on the horse this Friday when they entertain a Jong Ajax team who they beat 0-3 in Amsterdam earlier this season. The visitors will be fired up to avenge that defeat though, especially after annihilating Roda JC on match day 24 to gain their first win in five, so everything looks set fair for a thrilling contest here at Jan Louwers Stadion.

Jong PSV’s 1-2 success at Jan Louwers Stadion last week secured the league double for them over FC Eindhoven this season after beating them by the same scoreline at De Herdgang on match day one and that won’t feel great for the fans of Blauw-witten.

Nonetheless, whilst pride matters for FC Eindhoven in terms of beating the reserves of their once bitter rivals, it is only three points at the end of the day and potentially no more than a bump in the road following a tremendous spell of form.

Eindhoven had landed five Eerste Divisie wins in succession prior to last week’s reversal, and that purple patch still leaves them well placed to mount a Play-off bid this term.

Looking further back, David Nascimento’s team have in fact amassed 25 points from their last 11 league fixtures – a ratio which more than matches the teams at the top of the table.

But for FC Eindhoven’s dreadful start to the campaign where they lost five on the spin, they could well be challenging now for automatic promotion and a return to Eredivisie after over 40 years.

If FC Eindhoven can keep things up, they’ll definitely finish in the top nine and will be a force to be reckoned with come the Play-offs in May.

For now though, Blauw-witten sit 11th in the table; and need to get back on the winning trail quickly to get back in the mix.

Nascimento’s charges will surely welcome the visit of Jong Ajax this Friday after trouncing the defending champions 0-3 in September, and the away side have plenty to prove on the road after losing seven from 12 outings this term.

They can be well capable if in the mood as November’s 2-5 success at leaders Twente suggests, but more often than not we have seen Michael Reiziger’s men struggle to perform – as was the case when losing 4-1 at RKC in January and drawing 3-3 with lowly Dordrecht a fortnight ago.

8th placed Jong turned in one of their rare but dazzling displays last Friday to pummel promotion chasing Roda JC 5-1 at Sportpark De Toekomst, but as the story of the season so far tells us, there’s absolutely no guarantee that Jong will back up such a strong performance.

So in willing to forgive FC Eindhoven’s slip up last week, we’re keen to back the hosts here at a tasty price – odds which don’t reflect Eindhoven’s consistent form and Jong Ajax’s outside of Amsterdam.

There could be lots of goals in this one, so we’re also predicting a 3-2 scoreline in favour of Blauw-witten.
