Thun vs Neuchatel Xamax Predictions

The new Super League season is upon us and one of the previous campaign’s Europa League qualifiers, Thun, has the home advantage against a Xamax side that only escaped relegation courtesy of the playoffs.

Pre-season hasn’t gone well for either side and both teams head into the opening game of the campaign having lost the majority of their last six matches. Thun lost heavily against Lausanne Sport, Kriens, and St. Gallen, before recording their one and only friendly victory against French side Nice, while Xamax were beaten by Breitenrain, Tuzia City, and Stade Lausanne Ouchy, but did manage to beat Yverdon Sport and drew with fellow Super League side Sion.

The previous meetings between these two teams over the last couple of years and their performances heading into Saturday’s match all point towards over 2.5 goals being scored and we are backing Thun to claim all three points. Five of the last seven meetings between these two clubs have produced over 2.5 goals and Thun have won three of their last seven matches against Xamax. Five of Thun’s last six matches have produced over 2.5 goals and three of Xamax’s last six matches have also seen over 2.5 goals scored, which is why we’re backing a 2-1 win for Thun this weekend.

Dejan Sorgic finished as the second top scorer in the Super League last season and Thun will be hoping their Swiss forward can surpass his total of 15 goals and get off to a scoring start this weekend. Raphaël Nuzzolo netted an impressive thirteen goals in the league last season and Xamax have done well to keep hold of the talented midfielder after struggling to stay in the top flight. We’re confident that Thun will win and over 2.5 goals will be scored in the process, and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1. Thun outplayed their guests last season and while pre-season hasn’t gone exactly to play the hosts did manage to beat NIce last time out. Xamax will be expecting another tough season after failing to add much more quality to their side but will be hoping to have enough about them to steer clear of the relegation battle.
