FC Utrecht Reserves vs RKC Waalwijk Predictions

It’s hard to believe looking at RKC now that they lost six of their first ten matches this season, but boss Fred Grim has done a remarkable job to turn his side around. A run of four wins from their last five outings has put the Waalwijk outfit on the cusp of the Play-off places, and they’re scoring goals for fun. Can they land another victory this week when they travel to face strugglers Jong Utrecht?

A double salvo from Sylla Sow spearheaded a marvellous 4-1 success for RKC over Jong Ajax at Mandemakers Stadion last week, and Fred Grim’s side are now just three points behind the Play-off places in 12th following Friday night’s Eerste Divisie fixtures.

A wide margin victory here will see RKC jump into the top nine, and no one could deny them that position, based on their results and performances over the past few weeks.

Their beating of the defending champions was their fourth league win in five and they’ve been banging in the goals at will, with 13 scored in that run.

It’s form which currently puts them on a par with some of the best teams in the division and they head to Utrecht this Monday as solid favourites to bag another crucial three points.

RKC were rolled over 5-2 here last term and they’ve lost six of their ten away matches this season, but that hardly paints an accurate picture of how things are at present and the contrast between these two teams.

Waalwijk have actually won three of their last four on the road and they managed to edge out Jong 3-2 at home in October, which came before their sharp upturn in form.

Sportpark De Westmaat can be a difficult venue for the bigger Eerste Divisie teams to go and Jong beat their Ajax counterparts 4-3 here before holding leaders Den Bosch to a 1-1 draw towards the end of last year.

Nonetheless, Jong have lost their last two at home against Sparta Rotterdam (1-2) and Jong AZ (1-3), with the latter arguably being one of their worst displays of the campaign.

Jong kept the margin down to a single goal in losing away to Twente last week, but they were partly focused on the KNVB Beker and it was more a case of the Enschede outfit playing really poorly as opposed to Jong performing well.

So the bookies rightly have RKC as favourites for this Monday’s clash, but they’ve been quite generous in offering up the visitors at just under the evens mark.

We want to take advantage of that by recommending a three point stake on Grim’s side, who don’t look like they’re ready to let up just yet. It will take a better team to stop them in their tracks we feel and they can cruise their way to another win with 1-3 being our correct score prediction.
