Feirense vs FC Porto Predictions

Another defeat for Feirense last weekend means they now sit ten points adrift of safety and rooted to the bottom of the Primeira Liga table. Visitors Porto lost their grip on the top spot when they were beaten by Benfica in their last league game, but did progress through to the next round of the Champions League courtesy of a moral boosting extra time victory over Serie A side Roma.

Belenenses aren’t known for their scoring power, but when they played host to Feirense on Sunday they scored four times without reply. Jonatan set the tone of the afternoon with the games opening goal in the fifth minute, Kikas netted once in each half, and Licá completed the scoring late on to condemn Feirense to a sixth straight defeat. Porto recovered well from their defeat to Benfica at the weekend to come from behind to knock Roma out of the Champions League. Tiquinho scored the games first goal in the twenty-sixth minute, but veteran midfielder De Rossi equalised for Roma to ensure the Italians went in at the break in front on aggregate. Marega scored early in the second half to make the aggregate scoreline 3-3 and sent the match into extra time. Brazil’s Alex Telles was the hero of the hour for Porto as he converted a penalty for the hosts three minutes before the game was due to be settled via a penalty shootout.

The recent head to head record between the two clubs and their form and performances over the last few weeks all suggests Porto will win on Sunday, and that the visitors are likely to keep a clean sheet. Porto have won four of their last six matches against Feirense, and kept three clean sheets against Sunday’s hosts during that period. Feirense have lost their last six matches, while Porto have won four of their last six. Feirense have failed to score in three of their last five matches, and Porto have kept three clean sheets in their last five attempts. Both teams will be eager to win for very different reasons, but Porto should have too much quality for their hosts and will be expected to claim the victory fairly comfortably.

Edinho top scores for Feirense with four goals in the Primeira Liga this season, and only he, Silva, and Valencia have scored more than one goal for the relegation battlers so far. Tiquinho has scored ten times in the league for Porto this season, while teammates Brahimi and Marega have chipped in with seven goals apiece. We’re confident that Porto will win to nil on Sunday, and have backed the final score to finish 3-0. The hosts have been the poorest team in the Primeira Liga this season and look certain to get relegated after losing each of their last six matches. Porto have a great record against this particular opponent and have been keeping plenty of clean sheets of late, so we’re expecting another routine victory for the Portuguese giants this weekend.
