      Feirense vs Portimonese Predictions

Feirense sit in the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s match against Portimonense, and the hosts are seven points and five places behind their guests in the Primeira Liga table. Feirense lost heavily in the league last weekend, but were triumphant in the Taca de Portugal in mid week and will be hoping to build upon that result on Saturday. Portimonense won 3-1 at home to Vitoria Setubal last time out and will be confident they can pick up another three points against their struggling hosts this weekend.

Feirense were taking all the way to a penalty shoot-out at home to lower league opponents Pacos de Ferreira in the cup Wednesday night after the opening ninety minutes ended goalless. The visitors took the lead in extra time through defender Marco Baixinho, but couldn’t see the game out and were pegged back by substitute Tiago Silva with one-hundred and thirteen minutes on the clock. Feirense held their nerve during the shoot-out to book their place in the next round, but will need to put in a much better performance if they are to go any further in this competition.

Jadson handed Portimonense a tenth minute lead against Vitoria Setubal and Martínez added a second goal shortly before the break to make it 2-0 at half time. The next goal was always going to have a major effect on the match and when Martínez netted his brace in the fifty-eighth minute it ended any genuine hopes of a Setubal comeback. Agu did managed to pull a goal back for the visitors on the hour mark, but it turned out to be nothing more than a consolation strike and Portimonense held on to win the game 3-1.

These two clubs last met in February where visitors Portimonense ran out 3-1 winners against a frustrated Feirense. The hosts had 53% of the overall possession, twice as many corners, and more shots than Portimonense, but still ended up with nothing to show for their efforts. The pair went in level at the break after Fabricio’s strike for Portimonense was cancelled out by a Luís Rocha goal shortly after the half hour mark. Wellington Carvalho restored the visitors lead in the sixty-ninth minute and on the counter attack with two minutes left on the clock Nakajima scored a third goal for Portimonense to wrap up all three points.

With three wins, one draw, and two defeats from their last six matches, Portimonense head into Saturday’s game as the form favourites. Feirense have lost three of their last six, drawn one, and won two, but are without a win in the Primeira Liga in their last eleven attempts. Edinho top scores for the hosts with three league goals this season, while Japan’s Nakajima has five Primeira Liga goals for Portimonense and scored when these two clubs last locked horns.

We’re confident that Portimonense will win and have backed the scoreline to end 2-1. Portimonense have won three of the last six meetings between the pair, while both teams have scored in each of the last twelve encounters. Feirense have lost three of their last six matches, unlike Portimonense who have won three of their last six in the Primeira Liga.
