Feirense vs Vitoria Guimaraes Predictions

Feirense sit one place above bottom of the table Chaves having picked up fourteen points from their eighteen games so far, while Monday nights opponents Vitoria Guimaraes are flying high in sixth place on twenty-eight points. Both teams have been involved in a large number of low scoring games over the last month or two and when they face each other there tends to be a distinct lack of goalmouth action, all of which suggests we have a tight and tense game on our hands.

Feirense picked up a point away at mid table Rio Ave last time out, but have to start turning draws into wins if they are to escape the relegation zone and remain in the top flight this season. Rio Ave controlled the match with 62% of the possession and certainly threatened to score from set pieces, with eleven corners during the ninety minutes. However, both teams created a similar number of goal scoring opportunities and Feirense actually had more shots on target, so both teams will have left the ground disappointed not to have won.

Vitoria Guimaraes were involved in their eighth straight match in which under 2.5 goals were scored, as they went down 1-0 against Portuguese giants Benfica. The match itself was very evenly matched with Vitoria Guimaraes having 53% of the overall possession in their own backyard, and both teams having the same amount of corners and a similar number of shots. However, substitute Seferović’s eighty-first minute strike proved enough for Benfica to claim all three points and saw Guimaraes miss out on the chance to move ahead of Belenenses.

We’re expecting another low scoring affair on Monday night, seeing as though five of the last seven meetings between Feirense and Vitoria Guimaraes have produced under 2.5 goals, and with both teams struggling for form. Four of Feirense’s last five matches have seen fewer than three goals scored and Vitoria Guimaraes’ eight game run with under 2.5 goals being scored must be something of a Portuguese record. The hosts are without a win in their last six matches, while Guimaraes have lost four and won two of their last six, but based on their performances in the league this season, we’re backing the visitors to win the game.

Edinho top scores for the hosts with four league goals this season, but remains one of just three Feirense players to have scored more than once in the Primeira Liga this season. André André, so good they named him twice, leads the way for the visitors with six goals so far this season, though five of those have arrived in the form of penalties.

We’re confident that Monday’s game will produce under 2.5 goals, and have backed Vitoria Guimaraes to pinch a 1-0 win. The visitors might not be in their best run of form, but they have won two of their last six matches and their defence has been in great form, even if their attack has let them down on occasions. Feirense are going to struggle this season due to a lack of scoring power and we believe that will be evident on Monday night.
