      Feyenoord vs VVV Venlo Predictions

Defeat for Feyenoord in the league last weekend saw them slip further behind Ajax and PSV in the title race, with the third placed club now ten points off top spot. On Sunday sixth placed VVV provide the opposition in Rotterdam and the visitors will be confident about their chances of taking something from the game as they have a decent record against Feyenoord.

Feyenoord were their own worst enemy when they made the trip to Amsterdam to face Ajax last weekend, beginning with the fifth minute sending-off of full back St. Juste which immediately handed Ajax an advantage. In the twenty-second minute the hosts took the lead thanks to an own goal from Feyenoord goalkeeper Bijlow, and Moroccan midfielder Ziyech added a second goal for Ajax four minutes before the break.

Heading in at half time two goals and one man down, Feyenoord were highly unlikely to get back into this match, and they didn’t. Ajax controlled the game with 68% of the overall possess and scored a third goal in the eightieth minute to wrap up a 3-0 victory. Veteran striker van Persie was unable to trouble the Ajax defence, but should have more luck on Sunday and will be aiming to add to his six league goals which currently make him the clubs top scorer.

VVV’s top scorer Sušić has netted three goals so far this season, two of which have come from the penalty spot. Grot, Mlapa, and Post have each chipped in with two league goals apiece this season, but VVV could do with one of their striker hitting form and going on to score fifteen or more goals if they are going to challenge for the European places this season.

VVV started brightly against newly promoted Emmen last weekend and took the lead in the fifteenth minute through Mlapa. However, Dutch defender Janssen was shown a straight red card in the nineteenth minute and this allowed Emmen to control the rest of the match.

VVV held their lead into the half time break, but were permanently on the back foot due to being one player down. The second half continued in the same vein and eventually the hosts dominance told as Gronsveld equalised in the sixty-fifth minute. Emmen pushed forward in search of a winning goal and were unlucky not to find one after having nine corners and fifteen attempts on goal. VVV escaped with a point and have to be satisfied with that result on the grand scheme of things, but will be disappointed with the sending-off because eleven verses eleven, with a one goal lead, VVV would have been favourites to claim all three points.

We’re confident that VVV will take something from their trip to Rotterdam this weekend and have backed them with a double chance bet. VVV have won three and drawn one of their last six meetings with Feyenoord. The hosts were beaten 3-0 in their last Eredivisie game, and VVV have won three and drawn one of their last six matches in all competitions. Fourteen of the forty-three matches Feyenoord and VVV have played against one another have ended in draws. In terms of a final score, we’re backing this game to end in a 1-1 draw, but if VVV catch Feyenoord on an off day then they might even pinch all three points.
