Forest Green Rovers vs Newport County predictions and betting tips for Saturday afternoon’s League Two clash. Two of the top five clash on Saturday in what should be an exciting match of football. Read on for all our predictions and betting tips.

Reason For Forest Green Rovers vs Newport County Betting Tips

Forest Green Rovers’ unbeaten start to the season continued with another impressive result. The team beat struggling Cambridge 3-1 away from home in what turned out to be a comfortable victory, lifting them up to fifth place after 11 matches. Whilst Cambridge opened the scoring, Forest Green showed great character to respond positively and get themselves back in the game, even in scrappy conditions. It has been a fantastic start for them and it doesn’t look like stopping soon.

After finishing two places off the relegation zone last year, the club have rejigged its board and focused on sustainability both in infrastructure and on the pitch. Indeed, it was declared the “greenest club in world football” by the UN recently and these positive moves have been reflected on the pitch.

They have breezed past teams like Cheltenham, Grimsby, and Notts County, whilst have ground out results against Crawley. It could be argued they have drawn too many games, perhaps to maintain the unbeaten start, with ties at home to Macclesfield and Port Vale games which Forest Green should have won. However, the fact Forest Green sit 5th in the table still with so much improvement in terms of results and style of play means it can be dismissed. Draws away at Swindon and MK Dons, with home stalemates against Oldham and Stevenage can certainly be seen as points gained.

It appears as if Forest Green have found a fantastic set-up both on and off the field. They look a real force in League Two this year and it will be tough for any team to end that unbeaten record.

Two places and five points above Forest Green in the league is Newport County, who have made a largely excellent start to the league but there are signs of a little shakiness over the past four league matches.

The most recent threat was in their home match against bottom-side Macclesfield. Newport needed a 97th penalty to make it 3-3 after Macclesfield had gone 2-0 up. Although manager Mike Flynn attacking the refereeing performance, it must be concerning that his side conceded three times against a club who had scored eight in 10 before that. However, despite this the character of his team to even come back into the game and take a point has to be praised to an extent.

Newport went 2-0 down in their prior home league match as well, against struggling Cambridge. They recovered once more to win 4-2 in a blistering second-half performance to show their clear promotion credentials but it does raise the question of whether Newport would be able to come back against better teams if they went 2-0 up.

It seems Newport have had some jitters at home since the shock 6-0 defeat they suffered against Yeovil. They were simply blown away by the visitors’ attacking movement, pace, and finishing and must have sent shock-waves through the squad in their self-belief after they were so easily dismantled. Indeed, their impressive 1-0 away from home against Tranmere in the next game further implied Newport are more comfortable away from their home ground at the moment.

Although they have stumbled in recent matches, it shouldn’t stop Newport from being up there with the top three come the end of the season. Apart from a loss to Mansfield on opening day, they have looked an efficient, winning outfit that grinds out victories where necessary.

However, it will be a tough match against an unbeaten Forest Green side. With Newport adopting a more defensive approach to away matches, which has seen them suppress good attacking teams like Oldham and Tranmere, we think they could have some success in slowing this game down. Thus, an Under 2.5 Goals bet here seems appropriate, especially given that the manager will want Newport to be defensively strong after conceding three in the last match. However, Forest Green have more than enough quality to score, so backing a 1-1 draw could be a winner in what will be a tight, hard-fought match.

These teams have met across a range of competitions over the past two seasons. Newport won league proceedings last year, beating Forest Green 4-0 away, then drawing 3-3 at home. However, in a Football League Trophy tie and a club friendly, Forest Green won both times.
