      Fortuna Sittard vs Ajax Predictions

Both Fortuna Sittard and Ajax progressed comfortably through to the Second Round of the KNVB Beker in midweek, and on Saturday the pair go head to head in the Eredivisie. Hosts Fortuna Sittard are unbeaten in their last three league games, while Ajax are looking to recover from their 3-0 defeat at title rivals PSV last weekend.

Fortuna Sittard came from behind three times at home to Willem II last weekend before rescuing a late point and extending their unbeaten run to three Eredivisie game. A fourteenth minute strike from Dammers put Fortuna 1-0 up against their guests, but an own goal from El Messaoudi in the twenty-seventh minute and then a goal from star striker Fran Sol in the thirty-fourth saw Willem II take a 2-1 lead.

The teams went in level at the break though thanks to a fortieth minute strike from Novakovich, but just one minute into the second half and Willem II were back in front through Avdijaj. The fifty-third minute saw Novakovich level the game once again with his second goal of the match and the following nineteen minutes failed to produce another goal to the relief of both goalkeepers.

Crowley struck in the seventy-second minute to make it 4-3 to Willem II, but just five minutes later José Rodríguez scored what turned out to be the final goal of the game to make it 4-4 and secure a point for the hosts. One of the games of the season was witnessed that day, between two teams that like to try and play open attacking football, often at the expense of their defence.

American Novakovich now top scores for Fortuna Sittard with four Eredivisie goals this season, and if they can keep providing the striker with chances then he might just score enough goals to keep Fortuna Sittard in the top flight for another season. Veteran forward Huntelaar has scored six goals in just six league games for Ajax this season, though the former Holland front man failed to hit the target last weekend.

Ajax were left stunned by three first half goals from Pereiro, de Jong, and Lozano which saw hosts PSV 3-0 in front at the break against their arch rivals. Ajax did improve during the second forty-five and ended the game with 63% of the overall possession, but failed to break down a resolute PSV defence and ended up losing the game.

The visitors must bounce back with a win this weekend and if their midweek performance in the cup is anything to go by then Fortuna Sittard could be in for a long afternoon. Ajax scored seven without reply against amateur side HVV Te Werve and will be looking to pick up where they left on Tuesday evening.

We’re confident that Ajax will win on Saturday and that over 3.5 goals will be scored in the process, with the visitors claiming a 4-2 victory. Three of the last six meetings between the pair have seen Ajax win and over 3.5 goals scored. Four of Fortuna Sittard’s last six matches have seen over 3.5 goals scored, while two of Ajax’s last five games have produced over 3.5 goals, and the other three have all ended 3-0.
