Frosinone vs Bologna Predictions

This is a clash of two sides both lost their opening game of the campaign last weekend. Frosinone are aiming for better in their second match back in the top flight. After they won the play-offs last term to book a second ever campaign in the top flight, this always looked like a tough season for the Carnarini. However, there are plenty of struggling sides in Serie A, including Bologna, and that could allow the newly promoted side to extend their stay in the league past this season. They’re aiming to set the foundations for a strong future, but how will Frosinone fare this weekend?

The hosts were dispatched pretty comfortably on Monday night, as they lost 4-0 at Atalanta. However, travelling to a side who are strong contenders for a European place this term was always going to be a tough ask. They should find this weekend’s clash to be more on their level, and they head in to it aiming to build on a solid end to the 2017/18 campaign, which took them back to Serie A. Boss Moreno Longo will be targeting an improved display this weekend, while former Arsenal forward Joel Campbell is someone they’ll expect to flourish this term.

Bologna added a well known forward this summer, but unfortunately it was in the dugout. Pippo Inzaghi faced off with Frosinone last season, losing away and drawing at home during his final year in charge of Venezia. The club needed to bring in slightly more than just a new boss, as fans were sick of their pragmatic approach under Roberto Donadoni. However, to improve on that Inzaghi needs more going forward, and that’s something with the Rossoblu seem to be lacking.

The sale of Simone Verdi to Napoli didn’t help, and neither does the continued absence of Mattia Destro. Diego Falcinelli will be expected to improve them going forward, but there’s a lot of pressure on his shoulders now with big players missing in attack. It’s worrying for the visitors, who had a terrible scoring record on their travels last season. They hit just 0.79 goals per game, failing to score in 42% of their matches.

With that in mind, we think the value here lies with Frosinone. The visitors lost 63% of their away trips last term, and they finished the season losing eight and drawing two of their final 10 trips. That winless run was topped off with defeat at a hapless Udinese side, and after a 1-0 loss to SPAL last weekend things aren’t looking too bright for Bologna. That has us backing the hosts to claim a victory, and we’re backing a 1-0 success for the Canarini.
