Fulham vs Blackburn Rovers Predictions

  • Blackburn will be bent on revenge and redemption for the 7-0 home defeat Fulham inflicted on them in November.
  • Fulham have failed to get more than one goal in three of their last four league outings.
  • Blackburn have conceded no more than once in 11 of their last 12 Championship away games.

Rovers can restrict Fulham in battle for redemption

Fulham inflicted on Blackburn the heaviest home defeat of their 147-year history in November when they won 7-0 at Ewood Park, but this will be very different.

The Cottagers are still comfortably the most potent attacking force in the division, but they are no longer on pace to break the all-time goalscoring record for the second tier after a few below-par performances. It seems harsh to write that about a team that have won four of their past five games and still sit nine points clear at the top of the Championship.

But Fulham’s goal average has come down from 2.7 to 2.48 during a run of scoring a mere nine goals in their last six league outings. Marco Silva’s side have failed to grab a second goal in five of their last seven games in all competitions and it’s not as if they haven’t needed to because they failed to win three of those contests.

Mowbray’s mean defence can make amends

No-one foresaw the 7-0 drubbing at Blackburn coming, so another one cannot totally be ruled out, but there’s little doubt that Fulham are trending downwards in the goalscoring stakes. They are also set to face one of the meanest defences in the Championship this weekend as Rovers head to west London in search of revenge and redemption.

Tony Mowbray’s side were already 2-0 down by the time they were reduced to ten men in that earlier Ewood Park encounter, but there’s no doubt Blackburn’s defensive issues have been addressed since that day. Only Sheffield United have conceded fewer goals than Rovers in the last 12 league games and no team has shipped fewer on the road over the last eight fixtures.

All that information leads us to recommend a bet on under 1.5 Fulham team goals this weekend. Blackburn have conceded no more than once in 11 of their last 12 Championship away games while Fulham have failed to get more than one in three of their last four league outings. A 1-1 scoreline is favoured in correct score betting as Rovers are winless in their last five aways and two of Fulham’s last eight home contests have finished a goal apiece.
