Gais vs Varnamo Predictions

After regaining the winning thread away at Orgryte at the end of the August, GAIS, who’re currently marooned mid-table, would’ve been hoping to continue stepping in the right direction, though it was back to losing ways for them last time out. Having tasted defeat on the road, the hosts will now be looking to come out on top when they welcome an in-form Varnamo side to Gamla Ullevi on Wednesday evening.

As things stand, GAIS are a mid-table team in every sense; they’re sat in a modest 9th position, have scored a mid-range number of goals, while as they’ve conceded less than half of the league but more than the other half, they’ve been mediocre from a defensive point of view too. In addition, their form of late has been modest at best, as they’ve won one, drawn two and lost two of their last five.

With their form not exactly standing out as anything special, the hosts will be pleased to face a side below them in the table, though considering that the visitors have been thriving of late, this will be no easy task for GAIS, who lost when last in front of their own fans.

Overall, GAIS’ home form has been modest, even against the lesser teams. As things stand, GAIS have faced three of the current bottom five on home soil this season. Of those five matches, they’ve won one, drawn one and lost one, scoring just two and conceding three in the process. What’s more, they’ve failed to score in two of those.

Unlike the hosts, Varnama are not as high as mid-table mediocrity, though their form of late suggests that that’s where they may just end up. The visitors arrive at this juncture having won each of their last six fixtures, though their away record against mid-table teams this season is about as patchy as the hosts’ home record against the lesser sides.

Varnamo have played three away matches against teams who’re currently in the middle section of the table. From those three games, they’ve recorded one win, one draw and one loss, scoring a respectable four, but conceding a rather poor five in the process. If they can repeat their performance when beating Jonkopings by three goals to nil on the road recently, then the visitors could walk away from Gamla Ullevi with a positive result, but if they play as they did when losing 4-1 away at Degerfors prior to that, then Varnamo will likely leave empty handed.

One thing that has become apparent in recent times is the fact that GAIS rarely fail to score on their own patch, while Varnamo don’t often fail to score on their travels. The visitors have netted in four of their last five away matches, while GAIS have scored at least once in four of their last five at home. On top of that, the pair have kept just two clean sheets between them in their last ten combined respective home and away games in the league.

Taking all of the above into consideration, coupled with the fact that both are likely to see this is a winnable game, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’, a bet that has yielded a profit in seven of GAIS and Varnamo’s last ten combined matches, stands out.
