Gais vs Norrby Predictions

This has the feel of a typical mid-table battle. The Swedish Superettan hits its half-way mark this weekend and the table really has now started to take shape. It’s difficult to see either of these sides challenging for promotion nor really having to worry about the threat of relegation.

GAIS are right in the middle of the division in 8th. They look a solid team but have been struggling to convert one point into three. As a result they find themselves 9 points off the top three and fast running out of games to really claw themselves into serious promotion contention. Their 2-2 draw away to struggling Varberg was the latest example of their inability to keep things tight even against poor opposition as they conceded late to drop two more points.

They have 18 points along with four other teams, one of whom is this weekend’s opponents Norrby. The visitors do at least carry some form into this one with 3 wins from their last 4. That has helped them drag themselves into a position of greater comfort and they can certainly take confidence from a 2-1 win at high-flying Orgryte in their most recent away fixture.

Of the two, they are the team with the momentum and they’ve been pretty good on their travels this term too. They’ve avoided defeat in 71% of their away games and their average of 1.29 points per game on the road is the same as they’ve managed at home, so it’s clear they are comfortable playing away.

GAIS meanwhile have won just 2 of their last 12 matches. They’ve not kept a clean sheet in 9 games and they don’t do enough to convince really, with their mid-table position about all they deserve from a season plagued by defensive sloppiness and too many goals conceded. The bookies make them clear favourites for the win here but they do little to justify that and backing Norrby Double Chance looks good here.

It’s more likely to be one point rather than three though. GAIS have drawn all of their last four matches. They’ve drawn more than they’ve won or lost at home this term and the same is true of Norrby’s away games. Therefore backing the Draw could be worth a flutter in the Full-Time Result market in a game that is likely to be tightly contested.
