Getafe vs Mallorca Predictions

Getafe’s frustrating 1-1 draw at Real Betis last weekend means their search for a first La Liga win this season goes on, but Pepe Bordalas’ side will be confident that they can break their duck at home to newly promoted Mallorca this Sunday morning after Thursday’s Europa League success over Trabzonspor.

Getafe outperformed expectations to qualify for European football last term and their opening Group Stage contest came as a welcome distraction for the Madrid based outfit on Thursday following a sticky start on the domestic front.

After a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano on the opening night, Pepe Bordalas’ charges have posted three consecutive 1-1 draws and they will have been mightily disappointed at Benito Villamarin on Matchday 4 having failed to see off a Betis side who had to play with ten men for over an hour of the game.

Nerves were understandably present for Getafe as they kicked-off their Europa League challenge at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Thursday, but they were soon eased after Angel’s goal 18 minutes in which proved enough to see off their Turkish opponents.

Getafe will now look to build on that performance at home to Mallorca on Sunday, and Pepe Bordalas’ side are understandably favourites to see of a Los Bermellones side that lost nine times on the road in Segunda last term.

Whilst boss Vicente Moreno has made necessary improvements to his squad to try and make Mallorca competitive in the top flight, there’s a strong sense that the Balearic Islanders are going to prove much more of a threat at Son Moix than they will on their travels.

Mallorca lost just twice in 21 games at home last season and have already beaten Eibar (2-1) and drawn with Athletic Bilbao (0-0) at Son Moix.  Their only away La Liga fixture to date was against Valencia, but Moreno’s men were largely exposed in a 2-0 defeat at Mestalla.

Sunday’s match represents a slightly easier assignment for Mallorca, although it’s worth remembering that Getafe have lost just two of their last 15 league games at home and put together a run of eight wins in ten at Coliseum Alfonso Perez in 2018/19.

With a battling midweek Europa League win against decent opponents under their belt, we think Getafe can take a step forward this Sunday to record their first La Liga win of the campaign. The hosts are worth siding with in the match betting alone, although a Getafe success with under 2.5 goals scored is also a viable alternative for smaller stakes.

Seven out of eight matches this season involving these sides have produced fewer than 2.5 goals, so a low scoring affair looks likely. In the correct score market, we’re going for 1-0 in favour of Getafe, based on the hosts scoring once in their last four competitive fixtures and Mallorca’s failure to net in their last three outings.
