Ghana vs Tunisia Predictions

The final match in the second round of Africa Cup of Nations matches sees Ghana meeting Tunisia, with the pair looking to land a spot in the quarter-finals. These two teams both underwhelmed us in the group stage, but which of them will make it into the quarters? Ghana have been the nearly men in this tournament for years now, while Tunisia are aiming to extend their unbeaten run after edging through their group.

Ghana are aiming to book another quarter-final place, which has become part and parcel for them in recent years. In fact, they haven’t failed to make it past the quarters since 2008. They hosted the competition 11 years ago, kicking off a wonderful spell for the Black Star. They’ve made the final twice in that time, but they remain without a trophy since 1982. The four-time champions of Africa are pushing for glory yet again, but will they finally get over the line?

Ghana face off with a Tunisia side who are a solid unit, but an unspectacular team. They’ve got a few mercurial talents for manager Alain Giresse to use, but they’ve also got issues he’s struggling to fix. Interestingly, a path may just have opened up for one of these two sides. The winner will be up against either Madagascar or DR Congo in the last eight. The quarters seemed to be the limit for either of these sides, but they could end up sneaking into the semis. However, there’s every chance that Ghana will take this chance to record another top-four finish.

This is a tough clash to call, given that they produced just one win between them in the group stage. Ghana needed to see off Guinea-Bissau in order to make the second round. Meanwhile, Tunisia drew all of their matches in the first round, including a 0-0 in their last game with Mauritania. They’ve got major issues up front, having scored only two goals all tournament. That’s unlikely to improve against a solid Ghana side.

The Black Stars have drawn three of their last four games, while they’ve been beaten just once in their last 13. The only issue for them is their Africa Cup of Nations record, which has seen them win only once in their last five games. When the pair met in the 2012 tournament they needed extra-time to settle it. We could easily see the same thing happening again here, as the pair look to continue their unbeaten starts to the tournament.
