Gillingham vs Fleetwood Town Predictions

  • Gillingham have scored in five out of seven at home against the current top eight.
  • Gillingham have scored in 88% of their home matches during the current campaign.
  • Fleetwood have scored in 82% of their travelling matches in League 1 this season.
  • Fleetwood have scored in eight out of eight away against the current top half.

Gills not out of it yet

They may not be in the immediate play-off picture, but the Gills aren’t out of the running just yet, as they sit eight points off the top six. That said, if they are to make a serous go of finishing in the top six, then they need to regain the winning thread ASAP. Steve Evans’ men have now gone three games without tasting success.

Over the last few months or so, Priestfield has become a very tough place to go. That said, some of the top teams have won at this venue. The Gills have won two, drawn two and lost three against the current top eight at home. They’ve kept just two clean sheets against such opposition, which is slightly concerning. Then again, they’re unbeaten in their last three home games against top-eight opposition.

Trawlermen ticking along

While Gillingham have work to do to get into the top six, Fleetwood are currently where they want to be, mainly thanks to an unbeaten run that stretches back as far as early January. The Cod Army haven’t been prolific winners but they’re extremely tough to beat, so regular points continue to be collected by Joey Barton’s men.

With 23 points to their name, Fleetwood are League 1’s fifth-best away team, and their recent form on the road is eye-catching. The Trawlermen have lost none of their last six away games, winning three of their last five.

Away against the current top half, Fleetwood have done OK, winning three, drawing three and losing two. Positively, they’ve scored in each of those eight games.

Both can find the net

On the face of it, given that both are tough to beat, this may seem like a candidate for a lack of goals, but if we dig a little deeper, ‘Both Teams to Score’ appeals. Gillingham have a good scoring record at home and have scored in five out of seven at home against the top eight. Moreover, Fleetwood have scored plenty on the road, scoring in eight out of eight away against the current top half. The visitors have kept just two clean sheets in those eight matches, while the Gills have only shut top-eight sides out in two out of seven at Priestfield.

‘Correct Score’ players can try a 1-1 draw. The Gills are no strangers to drawing at home, while they’re also familiar with scoring just once, notching a single goal in six of their last ten on their own patch. Fleetwood have scored just once in three of their last four away against top-eight teams, drawing two of their last three.
