Godoy Cruz vs Olimpia Asuncion Predictions

Tuesday’s Copa Libertadores group stage action sees Argentines Godoy Cruz doing battle with Paraguayans Olimpia at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza. The visitors arrive with great momentum behind them and will be gunning for all 3 points against an out of form home side.

Godoy Cruz may well be in the Libertadores courtesy of their 2nd placed finish in last season’s Superliga Argentina but that seems a distant memory now, with the team struggling heavily and playing poorly. El Tomba come into this game having not even scored in 6 of their last 7 matches and currently 14th in the domestic table, aren’t really looking like a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

It’s not a situation that appears like getting better any time soon either, with the board having made the bizarre decision to appoint Lucas Bernardi as manager again. Bernardi will take charge of the team for the first team in Tuesday’s game but having failed at almost everywhere he’s been in his managerial career, including Belgrano as recently as this season, improvement to the hosts current situation seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, visitors Olimpia certainly do not arrive short of confidence, having won the Paraguayan title at the end of last year and having made an excellent start to the new season. El Decano are looking like a very powerful outfit and will also be confident of a sustained run in the Libertadores.

All in all, Olimpia have now won 7 of their last 8 matches and are incredibly consistent. On the road here, they have absolutely nothing to fear and wins in each of their last 5 away games, during which they scored an average of 3 goals a game, more than illustrates their ability to perform as visitors.

Ultimately, we’re only expecting one result here, which makes the prices on offer rather bizarre. It’s true that Godoy Cruz were extremely strong on home turf last year but they now appear a completely different, and weaker, outfit and that has Olimpia looking in pole position to win the match.

At current prices, Olimpia simply have to be worth a play on the full time result line and look to provide excellent value. They’ve been dispatching of almost all opponents for months on end now and with Godoy Cruz in such poor attacking shape, the visitors should be able to claim a relatively comfortable 2-0 win.
