Goias vs Crb Predictions

Wednesday’s Brazilian Serie B action features two sides in the drop zone doing battle, with Goias meeting CRB. Nonetheless, the hosts arrive as favourites to pick up the three points courtesy of their improving form.

Goias have certainly struggled with life in the second tier after relegation from Serie A in 2015, recording consecutive bottom half finishes in the last two seasons. Thus, expectations weren’t exactly sky high coming into the new season but few could have envisaged Verdão finding themselves in the relegation zone after 12 matches.

That being said, after claiming just two points from their opening 7 matches, that’s exactly where Goias lie, but they can at least take solace in the fact that they’re now in much improved form and look likely to move out of danger soon. Although it took boss Ney Franco a couple of games to find his feet in the job since being appointed at the start of May, he now has the team looking confident, with an average of 2 goals per game scored over the last 5 fixtures helping pick up a 10 point haul.

Meanwhile, following a lucky singular point escape from relegation last season it looks like being yet another long year for CRB. Galo, like Goias, currently have 12 points but more concerningly have only won one of their last 7 Serie B outings, leaving confidence very low in the camp.

Boss Júnior Rocha is now starting to come under real pressure and the last thing he needs is a return to the road, with his team performing miserably on their travels. CRB haven’t so much as even scored in their last 4 away matches across all competitions and have lost 5 of their last 8 games on enemy territory overall.

As such, there really only looks to be one winner in this clash and that’s Goias. The hosts are in much improved shape and have some real firepower in their ranks, evidenced by the fact that despite their low position, they’re still the 7th highest scorers in the league.

Overall, backing Goias to win looks to provide good value. They have beaten CRB 3-0 at home in the last two seasons and whilst defensive issues are a concern, if a clean sheet is ever likely to come then this looks like the match, with CRB completely impotent on their travels.

Man for man, Goias are the slightly stronger side and are certainly the more confident of the two. Adding in home advantage and CRB’s dreadful away record and there’s really no reason to believe Goias cannot win this match; with a 2-0 margin of victory on the cards.
