      Grimsby vs Yeovil Town Predictions

Grimsby Town haven’t won for four matches ahead of their clash with Yeovil Town on Saturday. Yeovil have only lost once in their last five in all competitions, yet a defeat for the Glovers at Blundell Park this weekend would see Grimsby draw level on eight points with them.

Grimsby sit in 17th spot after five matches of the new League Two season, though in terms of points they’re equidistant between the relegation and playoff places. With major positional changes taking place after every result in the early stages of the campaign, the Mariners could jump as much as ten places in the standings with a victory on Saturday.

Grimsby’s recent results would suggest that a victory isn’t forthcoming, though a more detailed look at the performances behind the scorelines shows that they they haven’t been playing quite as poorly as it may seem.

The Mariners only League Two win of the season so far came at the expense of Macclesfield Town and currently Grimsby are on a run of four without a win. They lost narrowly to Newport in their last outing, slipping to a 1-0 defeat against the playoff chasers.

Before that however, Grimsby held the division’s current top two, Lincoln and MK Dons to successive draws, showing that the Mariners can produce performances to match the best sides in the division on their day.

Their day hasn’t come often enough this season however and Grimsby’s opponents this weekend, 7th place Yeovil Town, who finished one place below the Mariners last season, have so far outshone their hosts in 2018/19.

Yeovil had to wait until their 3rd League Two match of the season to get their first win, after they lost to Bury on match day one and draw 2-2 at home to Mansfield a week later.

Since that first victory, a resounding 4-0 triumph at Notts County on August 17th, the Glovers have looked reenergized, taking seven points from nine in total and keeping three clean sheets in the process. In their last outing, Yeovil became the first team to beat Stevenage in the league this season, emerging 2-0 victors at Huish Park.

Yeovil are starting to purr, and with Grimsby struggling to find a way to win games at the moment, the door should be open for the Glovers to take a point at Blundell Park on Saturday. We’re predicting the teams to take a share of the spoils after a keenly contested fixture.

100% of Grimsby’s last five matches in all competitions have finished with under 2.5 goals scored in them. The Mariners were the 2nd lowest scorers in the League Two in 2017/18 and their attacking play has been just as toothless this term. Three of Yeovil’s last four games also ended with under 2.5 goals registered in them, so we envisage Saturday’s game being a relatively low scoring one.

With that information considered, we recommend taking the under 2.5 goal option for the weekend’s contest. For our correct score prediction, we’re going for a 1-1 draw.
