Guangzhou Evergrande vs Beijing Guoan Predictions

Guangzhou Evergrande and Beijing Guoan have both made excellent starts to the new CSL season, and the top two teams in the division could swap places this weekend if the hosts can win by at least three goals. That task seems difficult for Guangzhou Evergrande though, as their guests have so far won all seven of their league games this season and have a goal difference that is almost double that of their hosts.

Last weekend a first half stoppage time strike from Brazil’s Talisca proved enough for Guangzhou Evergrande to win at Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, and in midweek Saturday’s hosts progressed through to the next round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win at home against Henan Jianye. Beijing Guoan found themselves 3-0 up at halftime against Dalian Yifang, thanks to a brace from Viera and a penalty from Xizhe. Viera completed his hat trick in the sixty-sixth minute and, despite Boateng pulling a goal back for the visitors late on, Beijing Guoan held on to claim an impressive 4-1 victory. Like their weekend hosts, Beijing Guoan also won their midweek FA Cup tie, beating Heilongjiang Lava Spring 1-0 away without playing their strongest eleven.

The recent history between these two clubs and the excellent starts both have made to the new season, suggests that both teams are in with a good chance of scoring on Sunday and that the moist likely result is going to be a draw. Three of the last six meetings between these two clubs have seen both teams score, and two of the last five encounters have ended in draws. Both teams have also scored in three of Guangzhou Evergrande’s last five and three of Beijing Guoan’s last six matches. The hosts have only lost one of their last six matches, while the visitors haven’t lost any games during that same period, so we can see the pair cancelling each other out this weekend.

Talisca top scores for the hosts with an impressive six goals in the opening seven CSL matches, while Viera’s hat trick for Beijing Guoan means the Spaniard now leads the way on four goals. We’re confident that both teams will score on Saturday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-1. This fixture has a good recent history of seeing both teams score and both sides have been involved in a large number of matches this season that have produced goals at both ends of the pitch.
