Guayaquil City vs Ldu Quito Predictions

Saturday’s Ecuadorian Serie A action features a clash between Guayaquil City and LDU Quito. The visitors can claim the opening phase title by collecting just a point but will be hoping for victory against their struggling hosts.

It’s not been a good campaign for Guayaquil City so far and El Equipo De La Ciudad look in great danger of being relegated at the end of the year. Guayaquil finished just one place above the aggregate table drop zone last season, so it’s not all that surprising to see them struggling, but performances are a real worry nonetheless.

The hosts currently lie second bottom and have claimed just 15 points from 20 games. They’ve tasted success only three times in the matches that have been contested thus far and coming into the clash off the back of three straight defeats, it’s hard to see imminent improvement coming for Pool Gavilanez’ troops, particularly with LDU in town. Los Albos picked up a crucial 2-1 over Universidad Catolica in mid-week and now need just a single point from the remaining two games to claim the opening phase title.

After underwhelming last season and having not secured the overall title since 2010, credit must go to boss Pablo Repetto for how he has transformed this LDU side. LDU are now a side strong at both ends of the pitch, evidenced by the fact they boast the league’s strongest defence and third strongest attack and have undoubtedly been Ecuadorian football’s top side in 2018, collecting 45 points from their 20 outings.

Ultimately, we’re not expecting a great watch here. Up against such a strong opponent, Guayaquil are likely to try and put men behind the ball and with LDU not having a desperate need to win the match, it’s hard to see too many fireworks flying, making backing under 2.5 goals the way to play.

5 of Guayaquil’s last 6 home matches have ended under the 2.5 goal line and with 3 of the LDU’s last 4 matches having done the same, it’s a bet that really appeals. As for the result itself, LDU are very clearly playing at a level that is not comparable with that of their opponents and as such, we do anticipate them winning the match.

Backing LDU to win in combination with under 2.5 goals and for said win to be by a 1-0 margin also look like smart plays and we’re more than happy to back said options in addition to our main tip.
