      Guingamp vs Nice Predictions

Guingamp appeared to be hitting somewhat of a resurgence a few weeks ago with a string of good results but have since reverted back to their status quo.

Guingamp started the season with six consecutive defeats but managed to claw themselves back some respect after they went six games without a loss in October and September. Unfortunately for them, five of these were draws which meant they couldn’t progress up the table as much as they would have liked to in this nice run of form. They managed to beat Angers and get some good draws with Strasbourg and Montpellier but ultimately these games contributed little to their league standing.

They had to push on from these positive results and start getting wins so they appointed Jocelyn Gourvennec in place of Antoine Koumbouare to do this. The Frenchman managed the club a few years ago in a very fruitful period for the team but he has failed to recreate that since returning to Guingamp. His first two matches have ended in defeat with them conceding six goals along the way. They did score three times in these matches but two of them were penalties so this doesn’t account for much. Guingamp now have the challenge of an in-form Nice side to cope with which would make it eight games without a win if they aren’t victorious; a terrifying prospect for the club.

Nice have been in scintillating form recently with five wins on the bounce and they should be expecting to pick up three more points here. Of their four last games in the league, they have won three of them 1-0 and the other one 2-0. This could slightly put a dampener on this run as they haven’t been the most dominant in terms of the scoreline, but it is a vast improvement from the Nice side we saw at the start of the season, who were failing to score and defend.

Patrick Vieira has been able to instil great confidence and steel into this Nice side as they have now kept four league clean sheets in a row and they find themselves in a great place to shoot even further up the table, as they currently sit just three points off the Champions League qualification places. It has very much been a team effort on the attacking side of things as their last 11 goals have been scored by nine different players, and this is probably the one major criticism of this Nice side; they lack a consistent goalscorer. Mario Balotelli has looked half the player he once was this season, Allan Saint-Maximin is more of a creator and Myziane Maolida is still developing as a striker in Ligue 1. Nonetheless, Nice should be expecting to get the win here and that’s what we’re predicting here.

Nice have only lost one of their seven away matches this season while Guingamp haven’t won any of their last eight home games, a record that stretches back to May. This game has also been dominated by Nice in recent years with them winning each of the last five meetings. Guingamp have conceded 11 goals in their last three games and with Nice in full flow, we’re going to back a 2-0 win for Nice. The Eagles haven’t been overly impressive up top this season but we’re backing them to put at least two past Guingamp here.
