      Guingamp vs Nimes Predictions

Guingamp’s fate was finally confirmed last week as their draw with Rennes wasn’t enough to prolong their stay in France’s top flight for another year. They spent most of the campaign rock bottom and even though they picked up some better performances under Jocelyn Gourvennec, it was very much too little too late for les Rouges et Noirs.

They are winless in their last eight matches in all competitions, failing to score in half of those games. They had massive opportunities against teams in a similar position to them but ultimately they under-performed in these matches with Caen (0-0) and Monaco (1-1) both snatching a draw against Guingamp. Their last seven league games have seen them keep just one clean sheet so they will need to be wary against this Nîmes side.

Bernard Blaquart’s Nîmes have been incredible this season with one of the smallest budgets in the league being utilised to its fullest, combining a variety of talented cheap players with a few effective loan options as well. Their attacking play has been brilliant to watch but sometimes this has left their defenders exposed, resulting in sub-par results.

They have been on a good run of form recently though as they have won five of their last seven games, with only members of the top six managing to beat them since the start of April. Nîmes have scored twelve goals in their last seven games, keeping three clean sheets along the way, which is quite the feat for a team boasting the fourth worst defensive record in the league. Their incredible attack of Denis Bouanga and Co. has lead them forward and they should be in for another win here.

These teams drew when they last met in September but with Nîmes in search of their third win in a row, we’re backing the away side to get the victory. Nîmes have been rather poor on the road with just one win in their last six away games but with that victory coming in their most recent match, 3-0 in Reims, we’re going to back them to get the three points here. Guingamp have only lost one of their last six home matches though so it should be tight but ultimately we’re backing the visitors to win 1-0.
