      Hamilton vs Partick Thistle Predictions

Partick Thistle will travel to South Lanarkshire where they’ll be hosted by Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park. Can Thistle cause an upset?

Hamilton continued their unbeaten run during pre-season when they defeated Clyde 3-1 in their second League Cup game. Brian Rice’s men took just half an hour to open the scoring thanks to a Scott McCann shot that found itself in the bottom left corner. Blair Alston doubled the visitors’ lead 5 minutes into the 2nd half, with Clyde pulling a goal back 7 minutes later. Lewis Smith won his side all 3 points after scoring the Accies’ 3rd goal of the night with just under 15 minutes to go.

This win now means that Rice’s side haven’t lost any of their last 5 games, drawing once in their opening game of the League Cup against Queen’s Park. Hamilton won 3 of their previous 4 games before, losing in their first friendly to Raith Rovers before going on to defeat Albion rovers, Stirling Albion and Dumbarton.

Partick Thistle wasted no time during their pre-season period, with the club failing to partake in any friendlies. The Jags come off a 2nd League Cup group stage win when they beat Queen’s Park 2-1 during the week thanks to two first half goals from veteran striker Kenny Miller and Thomas Robson. Gary Caldwell’s side also won their initial game by a single goal when they faced Airdireonians with an own goal by Sean Crighton, giving the Glaswegian club all 3 points.

Thistle will be eager to avoid getting themselves into the same situation as last season, which saw them avoid dropping into League One, as they finished in 6th place and on 43 points- 7 ahead of Queen of the South.

Partick Thistle have had a 100% win record so far, although they have only played twice since the Championship ended at the start of May. Caldwell will be looking to pick up his 3rd consecutive win but he faces a tough challenge from a Hamilton side that’s eager to continue their undefeated streak so far. We’re going to back the hosts to win here and for both teams to score, with a final result of 2-1.
