Hearts vs Stenhousemuir Predictions

Hearts could move top of the Group A table and book their place in the knockout stage if they beat Stenhousemuir and Dundee United lose their final game at home to East Fife, but their guests arrive needing to win to remain in the hunt for the qualifying places after losing their opening two games.

Hearts made the trip to League Two side Cowdenbeath last week where an early goal from Halkett saw the Premiership side take the lead. The visitors scored again in the twenty-second minute through McDonald and lead by two goals at the interval and with no further goals being scored by either side in the second half, the top division side claimed a comfortable three points.

League One side East Fife had the home advantage against Stenhousemuir on Saturday, as the pair went head to head in the League Cup. A tight and tense first half ended goalless as the visitors from a lower division held their own, but early in the second half East Fife took the lead and four minutes from time scored the all-important second goal to claim a 2-0 victory.

The form and performances of these two clubs over the last six weeks and each clubs status in Scottish football, suggests that Hearts will win to nil on Wednesday. Hearts won their only previous encounter with Stenhousemuir 2-1 back in 2014, and the hosts ply their trade in the Premiership, while Stenhousemuir play in League Two. Hearts have won three of their last six matches, while Stenhousemuir have lost five of their last six matches. Two of Hearts’ last three wins have been accompanied by clean sheets, which is why we’re backing a 2-0 win for the home side on Wednesday.

Halkett, Irving, and McDonald have all scored one goal each in the League Cup for Hearts this season, while Munro is the only Stenhousemuir player to have scored in this competition so far, netting the clubs only goal in Group A during a defeat to Dundee United. We’re confident that Hearts will win to nil on Wednesday and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-0. The hosts sit two leagues above their guests and head into Wednesday’s match as the form favourites. Stenhousemuir need a win but haven’t had one in their last six matches, instead, they have lost five times and drawn once.
