Helsingborg vs Degerfors Predictions

This is an important game at the top end of the Swedish second tier. It features two sides that are very much involved in the race for promotion. However neither Helsingborg nor Degerfors are currently in the top three and were the season to end now, they’d both have to settle for another season in the Superettan.

Therefore three points would be very welcome for both sides in their respective battles for promotion and both come into the match in good form and higher up than they finished last term. Helsingborg are 4th and unbeaten in 7 matches overall. They’ve only really had one major setback this term, a 2-0 home defeat to AFC Eskilstuna back in April.

Degerfors are unbeaten in 5 matches too though so they will also come into this one with a fair degree of confidence. They hammered bottom club Varnamo last time out and have an impressive average of 1.83 points per game on their travels this term, more than they’ve managed at home.

However that record has been helped by a host of games away to sides near the bottom. All of their three away victories have come against bottom six opposition and this will clearly be much tougher than that. They’ve only played away to one team ranked higher than 10th in the current standings and it’s probably no coincidence that they suffered their only away defeat of the campaign in that match.

It was a heavy 3-0 defeat too, so they probably won’t be getting too carried away with their recent good run of wins against struggling opponents. Overall Helsingborgs look to have a little bit more in their locker. They’ve an 80% home win ratio this term and average 2.4 points per game on their own patch. Only one side in the Swedish second tier can better that return.

That includes a 2-0 win at home to 2nd placed Orgryte at the end of last month so they’ve at least got recent memories of seeing off strong opposition. They look fairly solid at both ends of the pitch, with 1.7 goals per game scored and just 0.8 conceded so far this term in the Swedish Superettan.

Overall backing a Home Win looks the most appealing bet here and if they can get it, Helsingborg will be well poised to move into the top two and really strengthen their promotion push.
