Huracan vs Emelec Predictions

Tuesday’s Copa Libertadores crunch group stage action sees Argentines Huracan going up against Ecuadorians Emelec. Both sides need a win to keep their last 16 hopes alive but it’s the hosts who are expected to claim it.

It’s fair to say it’s been all downhill for Huracan since boss Gustavo Alfaro left for Boca during the Christmas break. The return of Antonio Mohamed to replace him has not gone as planned as of yet, with domestic performances poor and Libertadores showings even worse, with El Globo having taken just 1 point from their opening 3 group matches.

Nonetheless, all hope is not dead just yet for Huracan, as if they win both of their remaining games, here against Emelec and at home to Lara, they’ll still be in with a chance of advancing. Whilst the side may not be in great form or spirits, they are significantly stronger than both of said teams on paper and that’ll at least have a degree of confidence running through home ranks.

Meanwhile, currently 10th in the Ecuadorian top flight, Emelec are hardly firing on all cylinders either and morale is low in visiting ranks. As far as the Libertadores goes, the visitors aren’t doing much better and they arrive desperate for 3 points in the Argentina capital, having thus far taken just 3 points from 4 matches.

Emelec have lost 2 matches in a row prior to this game and that’s a big concern, with the side really struggling to generate any kind of momentum. They’ve lost 4 of their last 6 games overall, as well as their last 3 consecutive away games and having scored just once during their last 6 outings on the road, it’s clear for all to see that the visitors aren’t a force on their travels.

Ultimately, whilst neither side has covered themselves in glory this year, it’s Huracan who are more likely to win this game. They are a stronger team man for man than Emelec and are typically strong on home soil, even if they’ve faltered in recent weeks.

All things considered, backing a home win looks the way to play as far as the betting goes and is something we’re more than happy to do. Emelec are very poor travellers and have been losing regularly on the road to sides with far less quality than Huracan. The hosts will be hungry for all 3 points and we fancy them to edge them via a 1-0 margin of victory.
