Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Inter Milan have seen over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last eight games in all competitions, while four of Bologna’s last seven contests have featured three goals or more. Meanwhile, Inter have suffered back-to-back losses and Bologna have won four on the spin, so the result markets offer little value.

Inter Milan 2-1

Reason for tip

Inter have claimed 15 of their 24 Serie A points on home soil this season, while their record of 25 goals scored gives them the Italian top-flight’s joint-third best attack. Bologna, however, are the highest scoring team in the division’s bottom half, and may land a blow at San Siro.

Inter Milan vs Bologna Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last eight games to feature Inter Milan.
  • Bologna, meanwhile, have seen a minimum of three goals scored in four of their last seven matches.
  • Thiago Motta’s visitors have won four games in a row, while Inter have suffered back-to-back defeats, which could be enough to turn punters away from the result markets.

Nerazzurri under fire

Inter fell to back-to-back defeats on Sunday, as Juventus midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagioli condemned Simone Inzaghi’s men to a damaging Derby d’Italia reverse in Turin, leaving them 11 points adrift of the Serie A summit. The Nerazzurri – title favourites in pre-season – now look to have little hope of a Scudetto charge, and Wednesday’s meeting with Bologna could prove vital as Inzaghi begins to face genuine pressure.

Inter’s loss at the Allianz Stadium followed a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and the Nerazzurri have now conceded 10 goals in their last four away games. No team outside Serie’ A’s bottom six have conceded more than Inter’s 19 goals against this campaign, and every other top eight team has shipped at least five fewer. However, Inter do retain Serie A’s joint-third best attack (25 goals scored), and with over 2.5 goals being scored in five of their last eight games, they should be confident of troubling Bologna.

Thiago Motta helped Inter to a remarkable treble in the 2009-10 season during his distinguished playing career, but if recent results are anything to go by, his Bologna side could pose a serious threat to last season’s runners-up. Bologna have won four successive matches, scoring multiple goals in each of their last three, and their record of 16 goals scored this campaign is the best in Serie A’s bottom half.

Goals likely at tense San Siro

With Bologna seeing over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last seven games, plenty of goalmouth action is expected at San Siro on Wednesday – when Inter’s inconsistent nature may put punters off backing the hosts.

While over 2.5 goals is our main selection for this contest, Inter may be worth backing for a narrow 2-1 home victory – 15 of the Nerazzurri’s 24 league points this season have been claimed on home soil.
