Inverness CT vs Ross County Predictions

League leaders Ross County will travel to the Highlands as they are hosted by promotion hopefuls Inverness at the Caledonian Stadium. Can the Ross County extend their lead?

Inverness’ season hasn’t been as straightforward nor consistent as they would have hoped. Caley Thistle currently sit just inside the promotion places on 46 points, but the Highland side are too far behind league leaders Ross County to gain automatic promotion, as they are 11 points ahead- although they could close the gap with a win here.

Inverness got their year off to a bad start, losing 2-1 to Queen of the South, but the club would fail to lose any of their next 4 games. Caley Thistle also lost to Partick Thistle, Dunfermline Athletic and Dundee United in the league, but John Roberston’s side was also able to draw twice with Ross County in the previous round of the Scottish Cup and knock the Championship leaders out of the tournament. Inverness haven’t lost a game since doing so against Dundee United, winning 4 of their last 5 games and drawing just once, which was a goalless game with Falkirk over the weekend.

Ross County have been on fire this year, but their form has dipped in the last few weeks. The Scottish Championship leaders are currently on 57 points at the top of the division, but they are only 2 points in front of 2^nd-placed Dundee United, albeit they have played a couple of games more than the league leaders.

The Staggies ended 2018 without knowing defeat since the start of November, and that run of games was broken once the new year got underway. Two consecutive defeats in the Championship was the last time co-managers Steven Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell’s side lost all 3 points before going on a 10-game unbeaten run. Ross County won 8 of those 10 games, drawing 2-2 with Inverness, twice. The Dingwall club has been struggling in the Championship, losing their last 2 fixtures to Dundee United and then to Alloa Atheltic, but the Staggies did pick up some silverware along the way, beating Connach’s Quay in the final of the Irn Bru Cup.

It’s a crucial game for how the rest of Ross County’s season will play out, as the league leaders will need to ensure they win here to keep their distance from a hungry Dundee United side hot on their tails. The Staggies still have 2 games in hand, but the pressure from being so close in the league could have its effect on the club. Inverness have also just about secured their place in the promotion play-offs, but it doesn’t mean they’ll take this game easily.
