Jonkopings Sodra vs Helsingborg Predictions

This is one of the most significant games this weekend in the Swedish second tier. It sees a Helsingborg side that is chasing promotion travel to play a Jonkopings outfit that have fallen short of pre-season hopes that they could challenge for a return to the Allsvenskan.

They only dropped out of the top flight last term but have made a really poor job of trying to secure an immediate return. If their form deteriorates any further they could even face a battle just to stay in this division but right now it’s shaping up to be a mediocre mid-table season, with Jonkopings currently lying in 10th.

Things are looking much brighter for Helsingborg who find themselves in the 2nd automatic promotion position at the midway point of the season. They went into the summer break on a huge high by sealing a thrilling 3-2 win away to leaders Falkenberg. They had to twice come from behind to win that one which is testament to their fighting spirit and they will fancy they can do the job and deliver three points here.

The main reason that Jonkopings aren’t in a position to push for promotion is their abysmal home record. They have the fourth worst home record in the league with just a 12.5% win ratio in front of their own fans. Their solitary home win came against relegation-threatened Frej and even that wasn’t convincing, coming by a 1-0 margin. They’ve won just 1 of their last 12 home games in all competitions in a run stretching back to the end of 2017 so it’s virtually impossible to make a case for them winning this one.

Helsingborg meanwhile will take belief from that last away win and also their overall road record this term. They average 1.63 points per game away and have only been defeated once on the road. That was a tough game against fellow automatic promotion hopefuls Halmstad and it’s their only away defeat in any competition in the last ten months.

Jonkopings have drawn half of their home games this term though, while Helsingborg have done likewise away so it may be wise to avoid backing the visitors outright. Going for Helsingborg Draw No Bet looks like a smart move though as they look to put more pressure on the leaders in the race for promotion to the Allsvenskan.
