Kazakhstan vs Russia Predictions

Kazakhstan head into Sunday’s Euro 2020 qualifier full of confidence after they demolished Scotland at home on Thursday. The visitors Russia were beaten by Group I favourites Belgium in their opening match and have looked poor away from home of late. Both squads lack a lot of experience, but that is expected to be more detrimental to Russia who are now without the likes of Akinfeev, Ignashevich, and Samedov, all of whom have retired from international football or football in general.

Kazakhstan opened the scoring against Scotland after just six minutes, with Pertsukh netting his first goal for his country in his fourth appearance. Four minutes later and the visitors were undone again, this time Vorogovskiy scored his first international goal at the age of 32. Kazakhstan secured all three points early in the second half when 20-year old starlet Zainutdinov netted his fourth goal in nine caps. Russia responded well to going behind away in Belgium in the fourteenth minute with an equaliser from Cheryshev shortly after, but the hosts did lead at the break thanks to a forty-fifth minute penalty from Hazard. The Chelsea star scored another goal to wrap up the points for Belgium late on and in the final minute of the game Russia had Golovin sent-off for a second bookable offence.

Given the result of the last meeting between these two nations, their form over the last five months, and the results from Thursday’s qualifiers, we can see Kazakhstan taking something from Sunday’s game against Russia and will be expecting a very close and competitive ninety minutes between the pair. Kazakhstan earned a draw against Russia when the pair last met in 2015, have only lost one of their last six matches, and beat Scotland 3-0 at home on Thursday. Russia have lost their last three games, all away from home, were beaten 3-1 by Belgium on Thursday, and have selected a largely inexperienced squad with just three players earning 30+ caps at senior level. All of the above suggests a double chance bet on Kazakhstan is well worth placing, especially with Russia’s recent away form being so poor and Kazakhstan proving themselves to be a difficult side to beat.

Kazakhstan defender Yuriy Logvinenko has the most goals in the current squad, netting five times in his forty-nine appearances to date, but it’s young midfielder Baktiyar Zaynutdinov that is worth keeping an eye on, as the 20-year old plays his football in Russia with Rostov and has scored four times in just nine appearances for his country. Russia captain Artem Dzyuba has fifteen goals in thirty-three caps and has formed a good understanding with fellow striker Fyodor Smolov, and stopping the duo will be the chief concern for Kazakhstan this weekend. We’re confident that Kazakhstan will pick up at least a point on Sunday and have backed the hosts with a double chance bet, and for the scoreline to end 0-0. The two countries played out a goalless draw when they last met and Kazakhstan have only been beaten in one of their last six international matches. Russia have lost their last three on the road and a draw is the most we can see their inexperienced squad taking from this match.
