LA Galaxy vs DC United Predictions

After a poor start to the season, LA Galaxy had begun dragging themselves towards the play-off places, though their upward push has been halted of late. After a couple of really pleasing wins, Sigi Schmid’s men came off second best against Portland, while their 3-3 draw with San Jose last time out might just have felt like a loss, especially since they lead 3-1 at one stage. Despite two poor results, Thursday’s hosts may still fancy their chances ahead of this match, as their form at home hasn’t been too bad, while they certainly haven’t been short of goals at StubHub Center of late.

If Galaxy’s form of late has been poor, then DC United’s form has been very poor. Thursday’s visitors, who just signed one of the Premier League’s most successful ever players in Wayne Rooney, are without a win in four in the league, while they’ve secured three points just twice all season. They’re poor defensively, while they’re certainly not the most prolific side, though manager Ben Olsen will be hoping that the addition of England’s all-time leading scorer will aid them in that department.

LA Galaxy have been very much up and down at home this season; at times, they’ve delivered strong performances, though they’ve also been poor on other occasions, as their record of four wins and four losses from eight matches suggests. Having scored six goals in their last three on home soil, Thursday’s hosts, who of course have the unmistakable Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading their line, are a threat going forward, so they really ought to thrive against a DC United team who’ve conceded more goals on the road than anyone else in the MLS this season. Having said that, if they defend as they did last time out, they’re unlikely to get the job done in simple fashion.

Having played most of their games away from home, it’s reasonable to assume that DC may have conceded more away goals than lots of other teams, though this shouldn’t distract us from the fact that they’re poor at the back. 25 goals conceded in 11 away matches is not good enough, nor is the fact that Ben Olsen’s men have kept just one clean sheet during the current campaign.

In recent away games, as poor as they have been away, DC have most certainly improved offensively, scoring in each of their last seven on the road, bagging a total of 15 goals. Such scoring form shouldn’t go unnoticed. Keeping out the hosts is likely to prove beyond Olsen’s men, but making their presence felt offensively shouldn’t be.

Given the recent performances of both teams, at both ends of the pitch, a typically high-scoring MLS games is fancied to unfold at StubHub Center. At the prices, backing ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’, a bet which has yielded a profit in six of the last seven DC away matches, is very much the way to go.
