Lanus vs River Plate Predictions

Saturday’s Superliga Argentina action sees struggling Lanus doing battle with River Plate. Coming in from the high off defeating arch rivals Boca away from home last weekend, River will be looking to build on said victory by piling on the hosts’ misery.

It’s almost unimaginable to think that less than a year ago Lanus knocked River out of the Copa Libertadores to go on to finish runners up in South America’s biggest competition. Fast forward just over a half year and El Granate have transformed into a side that is now 9 matches without victory.

2018 has been a terrible year for Lanus and the side simply haven’t recovered from the loss of ex-boss Jorge Almiron and a number of key players. Ezequiel Carboni was sacked at the end of last month but new boss Luis Zubeldía hasn’t inspired an upturn in form, losing both of his openers, meaning the hosts have now lost 5 straight matches across all competitions and haven’t even so much as scored in their last 4.

Meanwhile, River arrive on cloud nine after playing Boca off the park last weekend, claiming the bragging rights on enemy territory with a dominant 2-0 win. Said victory maintained Los Millonarios’ fantastic 29 competitive match unbeaten record and with one of the strongest squads in the country, the side are clearly one of the standout candidates for the Superliga title.

Currently 5th and 6 points behind early leaders Racing, River have been held back by drawing their first 4 league games but having won their last 2 in such impressive fashion, the visitors look to be well and truly in top gear and that’s a theme they’ll be looking to continue in Saturday’s fixture.

Ultimately, the two outfits arrive at parallel opposites in just about everything and there only looks to be one possible result. Whilst not in immediate danger on the average points table used to relegate sides, Lanus’ never-ending slide will have them at risk of playing B Nacional football next season if it continues for much longer, whilst River look set to challenge for the crown.

Backing an away win at current odds looks too good to turn down and for that exact reason, we’re happy to get behind River with maximum confidence. They have a huge amount of momentum behind them and should have far too much quality for this young Lanus team that is completely devoid of confidence at the moment, with a 2-0 margin of away victory on the cards.
