Latvia vs Poland Predictions

Poland will travel to Latvia for this Thursday’s EURO 2020 Group G qualifier. This will be a meeting between a Polish team that currently top the group and a Latvian side who are currently sitting at the bottom of the group. Poland should get one step closer to qualification with a win here on Thursday. 

Poland have been in good form during this EURO 2020 qualification campaign. Jerzy Brzeczek’s side have particularly impressed on the defensive side of things throughout their campaign. Poland have conceded just 2 goals from 6 games so far and have kept a clean sheet in 5 of their 6 qualification group games. 

However, Poland have been less impressive on the attack. Despite having a strike partnership featuring Robert Lewandowski and Krzysztof Piatek, they have scored just 8 goals from their 6 games. The Republic of Ireland are the only team currently leading their qualification group who have scored less goals than Poland. 

With world-class attacking quality available to them, it is surprising that Poland have not scored more goals in this group. They have scored more than 2 goals in just 1 qualification group game, which has resulted in under 2.5 goals being scored in 10 of Poland’s last 11 European Championship games. 

Latvia have also struggled in front of goal during this campaign and have managed to score just 1 goal from their 6 games. Latvia have failed to score in their last 5 European Championship qualifiers. 

This fixture has historically produced low-scoring contests. Poland have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 meetings with Latvia. On top of that, there have been under 2.5 goals scored in the last 4 meetings between these sides. We feel that there is a strong chance of this game producing under 2.5 goals. 

Ultimately, we feel that Latvia are very unlikely to get their first point of this group in this game. Poland are undefeated in 13 of their last 14 European Championship games. Meanwhile, Latvia lost their last 7 European Championship games. 

Latvia conceded at least 2 goals in all 6 of their EURO 2020 qualification games. We feel that this game is likely to result in the same scoreline as the last meeting between these teams and that a 2-0 win for Poland is a likely result of this match.
