Lazio on the up ahead of derby clash

One of the fiercest rivalries across the continent continues on Wednesday as Lazio take on Roma in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.

And both clubs head into the latest instalment of the Derby della Capitale in the middle of rather underwhelming campaigns.

While Lazio are seventh, Roma are eighth in Serie A with both clubs off the pace in the race to make the top four.

But Lazio at least look as though they have turned a corner either side of the new year, finishing 2023 with wins over Empoli and Frosinone and starting 2024 with a victory away to Udinese.

They also booked their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League and that too could have disrupted their flow in the first half of the season.

One way to show they are the on the up is by beating rivals Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals and they can do just that.

Tight tussle expected between rivals at the Olimpico

Roma have struggled of late, having been held to a draw by Atalanta last time out with Jose Mourinho having been sent off late in that game for his reaction to a foul on Romelu Lukaku.

Although Lazio look the best bet to win, it should be a tight match and a 2-0 win to the hosts could be the way to play it at the Stadio Olimpico.
