Ldu Quito vs Flamengo Predictions

Thursday’s Copa Libertadores group stage action sees Ecuadorians LDU Quito doing battle with Brazilians Flamengo. An open game is expected to be in order with plenty of action at either end.

LDU Quito were expected to be in the running for last 16 qualification in this group which also contains Penarol and San Jose but having taken just 4 points from their opening 4 matches, the hosts find themselves in a very difficult position. The side take to the field on Thursday knowing that nothing but a win is of any use but in their current form, they hardly look like securing one.

Indeed, Quito are in poor form and pressure is building on the team, given they’ve now won just 1 of their last 9 games. The Ecuadorians do at least have a high altitude advantage in this fixture, given their stadium is situated at a 2,850m height that Flamengo aren’t used to playing at, but the hosts don’t really look capable of taking advantage of it in their current state.

Meanwhile, Flamengo’s Libertadores campaign is proving a far more successful one and Mengao are expected to go far in the competition this year. After 4 matches the Brazilians have 9 points and top the group and travel to Quito looking to book their place in the knockout round with a game to spare.

Fresh from winning the Campeonato Carioca at the weekend, Flamengo are looking a real force across all fronts and look set for a successful year. They’ve now won 3 matches in a row and although playing at such a gruelling altitude is certainly a challenge, the fact the side haven’t lost on the road so far in 2019 suggests they have more than enough to combat it.

Ultimately, we’re expecting a pretty even and open game here. In normal circumstances, Flamengo would be expected to beat Quito comfortably, as they did earlier on in the group, but the altitude factor has to be taken into account and should ensure the hosts are able to give the visitors a run for their money.

All things considered, backing both nets to be hit looks the way to play and is exactly where our money is going. 4 of Quito;s last 6 games have seen both sides scoring and with 6 of Flamengo’s last 9 having featured the same, it’d certainly be a surprise to see either team keep a clean sheet on Thursday, with a 1-1 draw on the cards.
