Lincoln City vs Macclesfield Predictions

This weekend sees two managers go head to head who have had completely opposite entries into the game as Lincoln City welcome Macclesfield Town in a vital League Two clash. Former PE teacher Danny Cowley has been excellent since taking over as Lincoln boss, but he will face off against one of England’s best ever defenders on Saturday as Sol Campbell attempts to continue his sides bid for safety by upsetting the league leaders.

Lincoln City have been largely on another level to the rest of the division for the majority of the campaign and with just seven games remaining this season and an eight point cushion over their nearest rivals, it is hard to see the title going anywhere other than in the Imps trophy cabinet. The hosts have the brilliant mix of one of the best offensive records in the division and one of the best defensive records in League Two, and given that only one side has taken the three points when visiting Sincil Bank this term, they will be confident in their abilities to take a step closer to that title this weekend.

Sol Campbell has had to bide his time for a job in management, and although he took on the side who were adrift at the bottom of England’s fourth tier in order to get his foot in the door, he has turned the club around and the Silkmen are still within a shout of avoiding an immediate return to the National League. The visitors are currently two points from safety, and given that Yeovil are in no sort of form at the moment, they will fancy their chances of bridging that gap.

Campbell’s men may still have plenty of fight in them, but they are towards the bottom of the league for a reason and a leaky defence has cost them plenty this season. When you consider the strength of the hosts and also factor in their dominance in the head to head, then a comfortable home win looks to be the only result which makes sense. It should be a routine win for the Imps but, in order to boost the return on offer, we think backing Lincoln to win by two goals or more on the handicap market represents the best option.
