Lyon vs Nice Predictions

  • Lyon have won three of their last four home league games, including two by 1-0 scores
  • Nice have lost three of their last four away Ligue 1 contests
  • Nice have failed to score in four of their last five away league games

Lyon can add to Nice’s road woes

Lyon are on the rise again in France and can extend their three-game winning run against a Nice side that have found their formula unsustainable on the road.

Les Gones beat Marseille, Lille and Montpellier in the space of a week to move three points clear of the relegation zone and into the quarter-finals of the French Cup. They might not be the Lyon of old, but Pierre Sage’s side showed enough ability and mental toughness in those games to suggest they could yet achieve a top-half finish.

Alexandre Lacazette is scoring goals again, his equaliser against Montpellier on Sunday making it nine in his last 10 games. He could also make the difference in this game as Nice don’tt possess a finisher of anywhere near his standard.

Les Gones have goals whereas Nice do not

Les Aiglons have scored just eight away goals in Ligue 1 this season, fewer than any of the three teams currently in the relegation positions.  Nice have lost three of their last four road games in the league and will travel north without the services of key defender Dante, who was sent off in their 3-2 home loss to Monaco at the weekend.

Francesco Farioli’s side failed to register in their recent away visits to Montpellier, Nantes, Brest and Rennes — the latter’s 2-0 home win giving them their first home clean sheet of the campaign. The Italian coach’s options should, however, be boosted by the returns of Terem Moffi and Jeremie Boga after AFCON duty.

Although they are capable of scoring two if needs be, one goal may be enough for Lyon to claim all three points given three of their last four home Ligue 1 games have been won with clean sheets and two of those finished 1-0.
