Maastricht vs FC Utrecht Reserves Predictions

After an indifferent first half of the campaign, MVV are starting to come good at the right time. Ron Elsen’s charges brushed aside Oss 1-3 at Frans Heesen Stadion last week to make it three Eerste Divisie wins in a row, and the Maastricht outfit have now hauled their way up the Play-off spots with 14 games of the season left to play. With a difficult trip to 2nd placed Den Bosch coming up a week on Friday, another three points here against bottom side Jong Utrecht is a must to consolidate their healthy position.

With 3-0, 2-0 and 1-3 victories over Helmond Sport, Telstar and Oss respectively in recent weeks, MVV haven’t exactly knocked over any of Eerste Divisie’s best teams en route to claiming nine points from a possible nine.

Nonetheless, Ron Elsen’s side could do no more than beat the teams lined up in front of them over the past few weeks, and the signs that MVV are turning a corner are clear for all to see with all of those successes rattled off fairly comfortably.

After taking the lead through Marnick Vermijl at Frans Heesen last week, MVV briefly looked under the cosh when Bryan Smeets equalised for Oss around the hour mark, but MVV eased clear as they had done in their two previous outings thanks to further goals from Koen Kostons and Joeri Schroijen.

The result enhanced MVV’s already impressive away record this term to six wins, four draws and two defeats from 12, and more importantly lifted the club into the Play-off places.

With just seven points separating 6th placed Roda JC from 15th placed NEC, there’s obviously a lot of football left yet to determine which teams will fill the top nine come the end of the season.

But for now at least, things are looking extremely positive for MVV, who are five places and seven points better off than they were at this stage in 2017/18.

MVV’s record at De Geusselt this season doesn’t read particularly well with six defeats suffered from 12 outings in Maastricht thus far, but those easy recent wins against Helmond and Telstar will have done lots to boost the confidence of Ron Elsen’s side.

And they should make it four consecutive league wins this Friday against a Jong Utrecht side that have drawn two and lost ten of their 12 fixtures on the road this term.

Robin Pronk’s young troops have shipped a huge 30 goals on their travels, and that will be music to the ears of MVV’s attack which has netted 10 goals in their last four matches.

Jong held MVV to a goalless draw at Sportpark De Westmaat earlier in the campaign, but we forecast a very different outcome this time around with the hosts fancied to win to nil.

The visitors have failed to strike in four of their last five away games whilst MVV have kept clean sheets in their last two at home, so this is a nice looking wager which greatly boosts the skinny match betting odds about a home win.

With Jong on a losing streak of six matches following a 2-4 reversal at home to Go Ahead Eagles on Monday, MVV can inflict further pain on them here and a 3-0 home win is our correct score prediction for the action in Maastricht this week.
